Tongji University

Strengths
Founded in 1907, Tongji is one of the most prestigious Chinese institutions, AACSB, Equis & AMBA accredited. For a few years, the university has had an international department which offers classes in English.
The university has around 50,000 students, of which 5% come from partner universities.
Major, Academics
Classes taught with the “American style”, meaning that there may be more homework than lectures. These are courses for foreign students, mainly German, English and Italian.
You have access to a selection of courses – Management, Marketing, Finance – with an obligation to take a Chinese language class and a lecture about China.

Campus
The university has 5 campuses. You will be greeted at the main campus, also called “Siping Campus”.
The campus has many facilities: swimming pools, basketball courts, weight rooms, library, bookstores, cafeterias (meals under € 2).

Good to know
Many restaurants surround the university. Plan between € 3 and € 5 per meal.
In the city center, restaurants are more expensive – plan up to € 10 in the most fancy neighborhoods.

Procedures
ID Card or passport (compulsory for destinations outside the EU) valid for six months after your return date.
X2 student visa if you stay less than 180 days or X1 visa for more than 180 days. You will need to apply for a residence card within the first 30 days of your arrival if you are applying for an X1 visa. This does not concern X2 visa. Nevertheless, since the X2 is a single entry visa, you will need to apply for the resident card which allows you to enter multiple time if you wish to leave China during your semester.
The X1 visa also involves a compulsory on-site medical examination at a cost of RMB100. This is not required for the X2, except if you request the resident card.
University insurance is compulsory, plan RMB300 / semester.

Accommodation
Accommodation on campus is not guaranteed, you can also stay in a private apartment for around € 600 / semester.
Estimated average cost of the trip (transport to/from the destination, administrative costs, accommodation on site, food, activities, outings, trips): € 4,000.
